Why call it “No.1”? I wish I had a profound story with a deep meaning, but the truth is it was the first rub developed. That’s all. It DOES have history; I spent a full year working to develop this rub, then lost the recipe and had to start over again from scratch. And there is a long story there. And so maybe the deep meaning is, “Take extensive, legible notes when you work!”

We put no sugar in No. 1– which is not only diet- and diabetic-friendly, it allows you to grill hotter and faster without the risk of burning/scorching the meat! It has a Southwestern flavor, with three different Chiles (Mexican, Anaheim and Chipotle) in the mix. You may notice smoked paprika, roasted garlic, leafy oregano, basil and thyme, rounding out a salty, hot all-purpose mix of flavors.

Chicago-style beef sandwiches were the inspiration for Boise Ranch Rubs’ Italian mix. The simple version of this story is that we took every seasoning that you’d use if you were slow cooking meat for an Italian beef sandwich and put it in one jar. Roasted garlic, oregano, thyme, basil, rosemary, red bell pepper and hot pepper flakes, together in one jar, pre-mixed with a balsamic sea salt to make this rub not only great for meat and veggies, but also a great Spaghetti Sauce shortcut! As with No.1, there is no sugar added…
